Arizona Select Side:
23 proud young men from the Arizona Youth Rugby Foundation represented the state of Arizona on June 14th and 15th at the prestigious Rocky Mountain Challenge in Aurora Colorado. Coached by Varen Berryman, Al Weber and John Lockett the Arizona Select Side earned much respect from the competition in solidly winning 2 of 4 matches and narrowly losing two.The first match found the young side from Arizona playing the #1 seed, two time defending champion and eventual 08 tournament champion Lousianna. Lousianna came out on top 13-0 in a very close contest. Arizona's nest match against Southern California ended in dissapointment. Arizona was in command for all of the match until SoCal scored two late tries in the final 4 minutes to squeak out a 31-28 come from behind victory. Arizona soundly beat Rio Grande 66-3 in their third match and then beat Great Plains 12-5 in their last match to end up 2-2 for the fourth time in five years. Great job by all the players, coaches and all those who helped on the trip.
